Catherine Bingham

Catherine Bingham (Melbourne/Victoria) is a Principal Risk Assessor with more thanĀ 20 years of experience focused on assessing health and environmental risks from contaminated sites and other environmental exposures and developing remediation and management plans to address those risks.

Catherine has worked within the mining, oil & gas, and manufacturing industries, with government and regulators, and with community stakeholders to assess risks and address community and environmental health concerns at sites across Australia. She supports risk-based strategies that meet both client goals and regulator expectations. To do this, she develops conceptual site models built on thorough understandings of contamination sources and likely chemical exposures and derives risk-based criteria for soil, soil vapour, surface water, and groundwater for site clean-up. She has reviewed published literature on the environmental fate and transport, toxicity, and derived criteria for contaminants (e.g., explosive compounds, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances [PFAS], hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, and metals) in various environmental matrices.

Clients turn to Catherine to strategically apply guidelines and legislation in relation to environmental health risk and contaminated site assessment in Australia. She has completed key projects that required review by multiple government agencies before publication of assessment reports. Drawing on her public health skills, Catherine supports her clients’ community engagement and risk communication by drafting effective written documents for non-expert audiences, giving stakeholder presentations, and participating in community meetings.
